I take a Person-Centred approach in all of my work. At the heart of this lies the premise that we can grow, change and reach our full potential, under the right conditions. My role is to help you do just that, by providing a safe, trusting environment in which you can really understand your experience, and identify and break down the barriers which may be preventing you from moving forwards.
I also use Psychodynamic theory, looking at childhood experiences and the key relationships of our early years, which can have significant influence over our thoughts, feelings and actions as adults. Working through unresolved issues of your past can help you live more freely in your present.
Counselling provides the unique opportunity to have 'Your space, your time' in the presence of a trusted companion who fully understands and supports you, without judgement or agenda.
Our minds can often feel like a tangled mess of "stuff" that is impossible to sort alone, no matter how hard we try. Voicing thoughts and feelings helps to work through the tangles, bringing clarity and relief.
When we are under stress or in very challenging situations, it can be extremely difficult to see a way forward. Time, trust and understanding can generate flexibility of thought and enable real shifts in perspective.
Life is busy. We can get so caught up in meeting the needs of others, that we neglect our own, or lose sight of them altogether. Regular counselling carves out valuable, protected space and time to focus in on ourselves.
